OH, CANADA

I was born and raised in eastern Washington and moved to Canada to live and finish university. I’ve been in Canada many decades and I just love living here. In 2017 it was Canada’s 150th birthday so I will decided to write a song to celebrate. Here's my song for Canada!

Oh, Canada, my heart is tethered here,

On this "pale blue dot" you're the place that I hold dear,

Oh Canada, "Stars and Stripes" to "Maple Leaf",

Coming here was destiny, that's my belief.

Oh Canada.

Oh Canada, when I first heard your song,

I was just nineteen and trying to figure out where I belong,

But, Oh Canada, then your Rockies I did see,

Through a car window, they beckoned me,

Oh Canada.

Oh Canada, just "above the fruited plain",

Where the frightened and fleeing are captured and detained,

Oh Canada, let them write in history,

How you offered hope and sanctuary,

Oh Canada.

Oh Canada, the first ones who lived on this land,

They've been forgotten, and so it is with them I make my stand,

Oh Canada, treat them tenderly,

Keep your promises, restore their dignity,

Oh Canada.

Oh Canada, nearly fifty years ago,

I came to live in a strange land with those I didn't know,

Oh Canada, how the stars did favour me,

For this is my home, it's where I want to be.

Oh Canada.
